Thank You
As you are aware, earlier this year I placed everything in relation to Community Kindness – Thanet on hold after I was found to have a massive tumour. My surgery to remove this went well and histology results did then confirm that the tumour was cancer. Since then, I’ve had a further procedure to rule out the possibility that I also had bowel cancer which was thankfully negative.
In relation to the ovarian cancer, we believe everything is currently looking positive and the cancer has been fully removed. The tumour itself was of the chemo-resistant kind and therefore no follow treatment is required. However, prior to my surgery, the tumour had burst open in my abdomen and therefore microscopic cancer cells are potentially travelling their way around my body. These cells may lie dormant for the rest of my life or they may decide to attach to another part of my body and begin growing at some time in the future – be that one year, ten years or even beyond. It’s not possible to attack the cells with chemo as they too are resistant and we won’t know if they are growing until I either die from another cause or I’m told that the cancer has returned. Until then I walk around a potential time bomb.
I had always fully intended that the pause of Community Kindness – Thanet would be a temporary one. However, after discussing things as length with those who matter the most to me in this world, I have made the difficult decision that Community Kindness – Thanet will close with immediate effect. I have been given a second chance at life which I need to grab with both hands. I know that none of us know what is around the corner but when you carry around a greater risk factor, sometimes you need to take stock and put yourself and your family first.
Ending the charity is one of the hardest decisions that I have ever had to make and is one that I certainly haven’t taken lightly. I could spend the remainder of my lifetime saying thank you to everyone who has supported this venture and who has made a difference to the lives of so many vulnerable children and adults in our community and still only reach the tip of the iceberg. You are truly all such wonderful people who have achieved so very much.
Thank you for believing in me so that together we were able to make a difference.
Sincerely,
Sonia Knight
